My photo shoot took about a month to plan. I was randomly looking for wedding veils on Craigslist. I’ve been inspired recently and wanted to find a bride to do a bridal session with me. I found Mandy’s post as I randomly searched for wedding veil sales in the Seattle area. I came across her post selling her bridal gown and veil. I chose to message her saying “I’m not a bride, but would you want to do a photo project with me and model your own dress for me?” I contacted about 5 different people selling their wedding veils. 2 out of the 5 replied. 1 denied my request and Mandy was the only one that was willing to work with me.
Mandy (the bride/model) and I kept in contact and started planning our photo shoot. I later found out that she and her husband Kyle got married last year. When I met Mandy in person to discuss details of the shoot, we connected right away. As we sipped on our espressos, we became more and more excited as we planned out every little detail. Once I confirmed my models (Mandy and her husband Kyle), I attempted to find a florist, baker and equipment vendors. I was on Craigslist and Instagram every day.
Mandy used to work at MAC Cosmetics so she provided her own hair and makeup for the styled session. I found the florist Makayla Thom through Instagram. I contacted 6 florists and she was the only one that was free and willing to participate. I contacted 4 wedding equipment rentals and no one wanted to help. It wasn’t until I found Jeannette on Craigslist. She provided the miscellaneous decor and furniture for our shoot.
I created and designed the wedding suite invitations via Photoshop. I thought of the escort cards and shutters idea randomly and printed those cards myself for the shutters shown in the gallery of images. I thought this would be a really cute idea for a real wedding so I went for it.
On the date of the session we had two assistants. One was a posing assistant and the other was there to monitor our belongings. So there were a total of 7 people involved: myself, Mandy and Kyle (bride and groom), Debbie and Meera (assistants), Jeannette (wedding equipment vendor) and Makayla (florist). It was a ton of work but I think our project was a complete success! October 2016 was the wettest month for Seattle. We broke records for rainfall! We literally had rain every day leading up to the day of the photoshoot. But we somehow had a clear day. Thank you so much for reading and thanks so much for everyone on this project team!
